Star Wars The Right Way

Episode One

Part Ten

Qui-Gon Jinn made very good time across the desert on foot. Obi-Wan was in trouble, again. Qui-Gon puffed a bit as he slowed down to a crouched walk. Well, at his student’s age, that was to be expected. Many, many Padawan Learners had been lost over the centuries during this phase of their training. Qui-Gon himself was not a stranger to such occurrences, but he shuddered at the thought of losing Obi-Wan. There was just something about the bright-eyed young man that he would terribly miss. He set his shoulder against a boulder as he spotted a smoldering wreck farther down a nearby ravine. There were certainly a lot of footprints heading down that way. He had to have a look.

As he deftly moved from shadow to shadow, his long legs covering the distance expertly, he spotted two forms darting away from the wrecked cruiser. It was looking more and more as though this was indeed the right ship. He let them skitter out of sight before he edged closer, his senses on full alert. He heard rustling from inside the craft and shifted his still warm lightsaber back into his tired palms. He made absolutely no noise as he crossed the threshold and peered inside the dark vessel. He waited in safety for his eyes to adjust, but he broke discipline and rushed in when he heard an all-too-familiar groan of pain. There on the floor of the shattered cruiser was Obi-Wan, looking almost as shattered himself. But what disarmed Qui-Gon the most was that his apprentice was still pulling parts from the walls, looking them over with trembling hands before setting them to the side.

The Jedi Master grabbed the latest bit of scrap from his tenacious apprentice’s hand and knelt down beside him. On the inside, Qui-Gon wanted to smile down at him and tell him how impressed he was that he was both still alive, and still trying to accomplish the mission in his state. But Obi-Wan didn’t need a father right now, though sometimes he felt like one. He stared down at his apprentice as the young man sighed aloud and hesitantly looked up from the floor.

“I’m sorry, master,” was the first thing he said. “I made you come all the way out here, and its just for this junk.”

Here, Qui-Gon did smile, a little. “I suspect that Anakin ran off with the impressive bits. Don’t worry.”

Obi-Wan scowled at the mention of Anakin, but then screwed up his face into a determined expression. He pushed himself upright with his right arm while holding his injured left arm close to his body. “I think I can make it back to the ship, master.” He grimaced as he looked up at Qui-Gon.

“I’ve no doubt, Obi-Wan. But the journey will be long, we’d best start back now.”

Star Wars The Right Way

Episode One

Part Nine

Obi-Wan Kenobi threw his gaze across a jagged landscape. His thoughts were a mess, and if Qui-Gon were here, he would be giving the young man an earful about it. As it was, he could not shake the foreboding idea that something very bad was lurking in his immediate future. He had been instructed by other Jedi Masters to be mindful of the future. Why did Qui-Gon have such a problem with it anyway? He shook his head and put his hand on his lightsaber, hidden beneath a light-brown cloak. The coolness of the familiar weapon was comforting, and he resolved to find a way to stop becoming a nervous wreck every time his master was not around.

“I see some good stuff this way,” called a voice from off to Obi-Wan’s left.

Obi-Wan turned and then walked several paces towards the voice. He peered down a steep slope and past several boulders. It seemed like a good spot to get ambushed in, if there was any in such a place. “I don’t like it Anakin, we could get jumped down there.”

Star Wars The Right Way

Episode One

Part Eight

Obi-Wan was well tangled into the hyperdrive wiring when Qui-Gon strode into the engine room. He twisted about at intervals, trying to make sense of the wiring hack job that Anakin had employed the day before to save their lives. The older Jedi stood there silently, observing his apprentice. He was keeping calm, which was encouraging. By his mutterings to himself, it seemed that Obi-Wan had already deduced the problem. The hyperdrive’s power relays had been melted due to Anakin’s rerouting of the circuitry. There were shorts all over the place, and it seemed that the device itself was cracked and impossibly dangerous to activate.

Star Wars The Right Way

Episode One

Part Seven

Anakin and Obi-Wan hurried along corridors checking, testing, and starting various pieces of equipment as fast as they possibly could. Anakin seemed modestly knowledgeable of which systems needed to turned on, but not where exactly they would be located. Obi-Wan, being quite the accomplished pilot himself, located most of the equipment first. Finally, Anakin finished the startup sequence of the main reactor and the cruiser thrumed to life.

When they rushed into the Nubian’s cockpit, Anakin swept into the pilot’s seat. Obi-Wan scanned over the panels with his eyes as he stood next to him. “We’re going to need a plan, Anakin.” The young Jedi thought quietly. “Could we calibrate our shields to absorb their scanner sweeps?”

Star Wars The Right Way

Episode One

Part Six

Qui-Gon Jinn and Obi-Wan Kenobi moved quickly through the Naboo city. Qui-Gon started recognizing landmarks, and that told him one very important thing: they were in Theed, the Naboo capitol. This made sense, as the Trade Federation would want to land quite close so as to take hostage the government without a chance for a defense to be mounted. Qui-Gon pointed at a rather obstinate building on the horizon. “That’s the Queen’s palace. We’ve got to get there before the droids do.”

Obi-Wan bowed his head to his master, and they both swept off through the streets, avoiding the eyes of as many as possible. A local guard just doing his job might delay them just enough to doom his own planet to an occupation. Qui-Gon and Obi-Wan concentrated, using the force to speed their bodies and shroud their passage as they could. As they made their way down the final causeway towards the palace, large blasts from the artillery regiment of the droid army began to rain down upon the city. Citizens scattered in all directions, and the two Jedi moved against the tide of terrified people as fast as they could, slipping past the overwhelmed palace guards without incident.

Star Wars The Right Way

Episode One

Part Five

Qui-Gon stood placidly before a fat, blue toad-like Gungan. The creature was seated upon a comfortable pad of soft moss and wore a decorative guard helmet upon his wide head. He had a suitably deep and authoritative voice. Qui-Gon worked hard to gauge the Gungan’s mood and disposition. “What news do you bring us, human creature?”

Qui-Gon bowed low in respect. “The swamps to the west of here have been invaded by a droid army several million strong. It poses a significant threat to your people.” Qui-Gon thought it best to leave the Sith out of the discussion for now.

Star Wars The Right Way

Episode One

Part Four

Qui-Gon tugged on the left foot of his apprentice, Obi-Wan, when he caught a glimpse of evenly spaced lights emenating from somewhere up ahead. They were swimming through a grimy, slippery, disorienting, and utterly infuriating underwater cave. Obi-Wan turned and began swimming that way in his usual youthful swiftness, and Qui-Gon was content enough to swim behind at his own pace. Once outside of the tunnel, Qui-Gon nodded to himself. The city seemed situated at the mouths of many such tunnels. Glancing up through the clearer waters he could see farmed kelp and seaweed beds swaying in various currents. If there was ever a good place for an underwater city, this would be it. But what Qui-Gon found curious, was that the city was within hundreds of large forcefields and seemed to be air-breathing. For underwater creatures, this made little sense. Unless… as he swam closer, he tapped Obi-Wan on the leg to set him moving once more, it dawned on him. Perhaps these beings actually breathed air. But then why live in the water? It was quite curious indeed.

Qui-Gon and Obi-Wan came across what looked to be some sort of gate. The forcefield here waved and shimmered about as if it were pliable. The decking was also rather interesting as it somehow managed to tug your feet down onto its surface to make striding about possible. Obi-Wan glanced at Qui-Gon questioningly. Qui-Gon felt along it carefully. Yes, this was meant to be walked through, hopefully. He put his hand up against it, then pushed it through. It was immeadiately dry, which fascinated him. He pulled it back out, feeling the water rush around it was quite an amusing sensation. Then, with no further investigation, he took a large step forward. The air on the other side was pleasently warm and he packed away his breathing device. Obi-Wan was soon behind him, his young eyes flicking about the area in both curiosity and caution.

Star Wars The Right Way

Episode One

Part Three

Qui-Gon Jinn knew he was getting old. It was obvious, as he’d actually managed to fall asleep stuffed into a crevice between a battle droid and the transport wall. He was awakened by the rush of daylight as the transport doors began to grind open. He slunk down between the rows of machines so that when the rack was deployed, he would be lowered safely to the ground and out of sight. He wondered how his apprentice was faring. Staying out of sight was never a young man’s way of doing things.

Qui-Gon had just settled into some thick brush when he heard someone who appeared to be having a hard time staying out of sight drawing attention off into the forest to his right. That is probably Obi-Wan. He reached out with his senses and felt a young, bright, and energetic being running through the forest. Yep, that was probably him. He stretched his cramped up legs for a moment before springing silently off into an intercept course. He palmed his lightsaber in case it was their attacker from earlier playing tricks.

He reached the point of intercept a bit early, he’d been rushing in his worry that Obi-Wan had gotten himself into trouble again. He leaned up against a tree, out of sight from that general direction and for once glad that he had his large brown robe on. He heard the running still, and he adjusted to a tree to his right as he heard the young man’s course alter slightly. Then yes, blaster shots could be made out as well. Someone running under fire could only mean Obi-Wan. And as long as the blasted boy kept running, then Qui-Gon would be waiting here to save him, as usual.

Star Wars The Right Way

Episode One

Part Two

Qui-Gon’s hand jerked upwards and let go of him. That meant something had changed. Obi-Wan sprang back to half awareness to ascertain just what it was. Ah, the doors were unlocking. Green and blue lightsabers flashed into life, and as soon as they could spot the opening in the door, they leaped for all they were worth out of the cloud of poison death and into a gathering of battle droids. It soon became a scattering of broken battle droids as the Jedi sprinted down the corridors before any more showed up. They caught most of the approaching squads by surprise, and due to their Force-enhanced speed, reached the heavy steel walls leading to the bridge of the roving spacestation before the Trade Federation could redirect their droids to a new target location. Obi-Wan and Qui-Gon sunk their blades right through the 6-inch thick doors and began slowly cutting a large hole.

A few seconds later Obi-Wan pulled his blade from the door as the droids were re-routed to their location. He stood guarding his Master’s back as Qui-Gon continued the work on the door. What droids he could kill by deflecting their own fire back at them he broke with his still-budding force powers. The ones that happened to get within striking distance were cut down swiftly.

Qui-Gon was almost through the door when he heard more clanking and sliding and felt metal grind around his hot weapon. They’d just closed the heavy shielding doors. He was not going to be able to just cut a circle through now. The Master Jedi withdrew his blade and reset its position to the dead center, straight in. He concentrated hard to help the blade grow hotter, to encourage the metal to melt faster, and he felt himself slowly breaking through. Another few minutes and this charade would be over and dealt with.

Star Wars The Right Way

Episode One

Part One

He was pacing, and nervously checking things, everything in fact. It wasn’t his first mission, far from it in fact. Obi-Wan had been on countless missions with his Master, Qui-Gon Jinn. But this was official business, this was for the Republic. This was a blockade of an entire planet. This could be potential genocide. If he failed this time, even his powerful Master could not stop the consequences. His training would be paramount, but right now the padawan wasn’t using it. Inexperience was a double-edged sword. Not only was he without prior experiences in this matter, but the lack of them helped to block out his training for this with his fears. He knew, in the back of his mind, that he should not be afraid, but he was. It was the fact that he was actually afraid, chiefly, that annoyed him.

He sensed a presence in the hallway, serene as always. He felt a pang of jealousy. How was it so easy for Qui-Gon to stay so calm? He shook his head free of such thoughts and took a deep breath. Mentally barking at everything and everyone around him was not going to help anyone, and it definitely wouldn’t help his nerves.

The damnable door swished open. He half-wished it had malfunctioned to give him more time to calm down. He met his Master’s gray-green eyes eyes momentarily, vainly trying to hide his attempts at quelling his nerves. To be honest, Obi-Wan just never really had a good instincts on which words to use. Diplomacy was a different game of chess from something he felt far more confident about, though he knew that could be a dangerous trait for a Jedi.
